About This Project
At UK Timber, we are proud to have sponsored the Structural Green Oak that was used to bring the Room to Breathe Hospital Garden to life at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May 2025, with it holding a permanent residence as a healing space at Amersham Hospital.
Designed by Jen Donnelly and Catherine Gibbon, this garden is a heartfelt response to the often-overlooked need for green, restorative spaces in clinical environments. The garden earned a Gold Medal at Chelsea, where visitors, including Sir David Suchet, Alexandra Burke and Nadiya Bychkova, praised its calming atmosphere and meaningful purpose.
UK Timber’s Structural Oak Beams form the striking pergola that supports the cocoon-like hanging chair at the centre of the garden. Painted black and set at a 45 degree angle, the trio of beams draws the eye upward and out, helping the space feel larger and more open. It’s a perfect example of how UK Timber’s high-quality Oak can transform and elevate outdoor spaces.
After its success at Chelsea, the garden is now set to be permanently installed at Amersham Hospital, where it will transform a previously overlooked courtyard into a peaceful retreat for staff, patients, and visitors alike.
